The Start menu in Windows 11 has been a topic of debate since the launch of the operating system. Many users have criticized its inflexible layout and the persistent “Recommended” section. However, it seems that Microsoft is finally listening to feedback and working on a more customizable Start menu for Windows 11.

One of the most requested changes is the ability to adjust the size of the menu. Currently, Windows 11 automatically determines whether you see a “small” or “large” Start menu based on your screen resolution. With the upcoming update, known internally as “Windows K2,” users will have the option to manually switch between these sizes regardless of their hardware configuration.

In addition to resizing options, Microsoft is reportedly making the Start menu more modular. According to reports from Windows Central, the new WinUI 3-based menu will allow users to toggle off entire sections. This means that if you don’t use the recommended feed or pin apps, you can hide those sections to create a more minimalist experience.

Performance is also a key focus of the update. Microsoft aims to make the Start menu more responsive, even when the CPU is under heavy load. The goal is to eliminate any delays or lag when accessing the menu, ensuring a smoother user experience.

While there is no official release date for these new features, they are expected to be rolled out sometime in 2026. Overall, these changes to the Windows 11 Start menu aim to address user feedback and provide a more customizable and efficient experience for users.
