Let’s be honest: Airport hotels can be a mixed bag. First, they’re not necessarily places you want to be. Whether you’re coming or going, they’re a means to an end rather than the destination itself. Sometimes we find ourselves at airport hotels by choice, like to catch some sleep before an early morning flight. And sometimes we’re there because of travel woes, like a dreaded canceled flight.

Either way, it’s worth noting that not all airport hotels are created equal. Most of us probably think of drab hotels that require a shuttle to reach. But the truth is, there are many incredible airport hotels in the U.S. and Canada offering runway views perfect for planespotting, chic rooms that feel like a true respite from the hectic airport and even ones with great bars and restaurants.

Best of all, some of them are actually attached to the airport, making travel easier, more convenient and … wait for it … relaxing.

Here you’ll find a handful of our favorite airport hotels in the U.S. and Canada.

Grand Hyatt at SFO

SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY

Need a room at San Francisco International Airport (SFO)? It’s as easy as hopping on the airport’s AirTrain and riding to the Grand Hyatt. Once there, you can enjoy runway-facing rooms with soundproof, floor-to-ceiling windows that let you see the action on the tarmac without hearing it. The hotel’s grand restaurant Quail + Crane also serves up runway views, alongside international cuisine with an emphasis on various Asian cooking traditions. There’s a grab-and-go market and bar as well.

The hotel also offers The Grand Club, available to eligible World of Hyatt members for a fee, as well as day-use rooms for people who need to catch some sleep when the sun’s still out.

Rates at the Grand Hyatt at SFO start around $245 per night. As a Category 6 World of Hyatt property, award nights start at 21,000 points.

Westin Denver International Airport

WESTIN DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Denver International Airport (DEN) may be full of strange conspiracy theories and Illuminati lore, but everyone can agree that the airport’s on-site hotel is top-notch. Since it’s directly connected to DEN, you won’t even need to take a shuttle to flop down in the hotel’s Westin’s signature Heavenly 2.0 beds or enjoy runway views from soundproof windows. For a workout between flights, hit the gym for a ride on a Peloton bike, or just walk around looking at all of the local art. Want to swim? There’s an indoor pool and whirlpool. And don’t worry about going hungry: There’s a farm-to-table style restaurant, a bar and grab-and-go options.

The hotel is currently undergoing a head-to-toe, $25 million transformation. Recently, the hotel’s meeting spaces finished renovations, with guest rooms and other public areas to follow.

Rates at Westin Denver International Airport start around $338 or 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

Fairmont Vancouver Airport

FAIRMONT

Above the E gates at Vancouver International Airport (YVR), Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, one of Canada’s most iconic hospitality companies, has packed about as much as possible into an airport hotel. There are chic rooms with soundproof, floor-to-ceiling windows facing the runway; rooms with 24-hour Fairmont Gold lounge access; and even rooms with telescopes to help spot planes as the land. As for common areas, there’s a Pacific Northwest-focused restaurant, a 24-hour fitness center, and a health club with pools and saunas.

Rates at Fairmont Vancouver Airport start from $250 per night. Accor Live Limitless members can redeem points for a fixed rate worth about 2 cents each.

Grand Hyatt DFW

SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY

The Grand Hyatt DFW always comes in clutch for folks passing through Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). And the hotel, which is actually inside the airport at Terminal D, recently underwent a $34 million renovation that touched nearly every corner of the property. The hotel offers 315 comfortable rooms with runway views, a rooftop pool where you can planespot from the water and a gym with Peloton bikes. Plus, there’s an all-day restaurant, a cocktail bar and in-room dining options to ensure travelers are well-fed before taking off.

Rates at the Grand Hyatt DFW start around $263 per night. As a World of Hyatt Category 5 property, award rates start at 17,000 points per night.

Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Toronto International Airport

MARRIOTT

At Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Marriott’s Sheraton Gateway Hotel is a favorite for TPG’s jetsetting staff. The Terminal 3 property offers modern rooms with the famous Sheraton Sleep Experience beds, plus plenty with runway views and some with access to the hotel’s relaxed Sheraton Club, which serves food throughout the day. But even if you skip the club, there’s still a restaurant, bar and a grab-and-go option that opens at 5 a.m.

Rates at Sheraton Gateway Hotel start from $270 or 44,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

TWA Hotel

TWA HOTEL

The TWA Hotel — which sits inside the historic, Eero Saarinen-designed TWA terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) — is like stepping back into the golden age of travel thanks to its Instagram-worthy midcentury modern design. The only hotel within the airport, travelers can reach it on foot from Terminal 5 or from any other terminal via AirTrain. Within the hotel, be sure to take a plunge in the rooftop, runway-facing swimming pool (though you’ll have to navigate its slightly complex reservation system that sometimes requires an extra fee). You can also sip martinis in the Sunken Lounge or head out to the Connie Cocktail Lounge, a bar set in a 1958 Lockheed Constellation airplane. And even if you just need a place to unwind without staying the night, day-use rooms are available in four-hour blocks.

Rates at the TWA Hotel start around $294 per night.

Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport

HYATT

By staying at Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport, located between terminals A and B at Orlando International Airport (MCO), travelers can be from bed to plane in the blink of an eye (well, depending on security). The family-friendly hotel offers rooms displaying views of planes taking off or landing, and even some rooms with balconies. There’s a rooftop pool, multiple bars and restaurants, and loads of meeting and event space. Day-use rooms are available between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Rates at Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport start around $199 per night. As a World of Hyatt Category 5 property, award nights start at 17,000 points.

Hilton BNA Nashville Airport Terminal

HILTON

Walkable from Nashville International Airport (BNA), this Hilton property opened in 2024 and is about as fresh as an airport hotel can be. Throughout the hotel, travelers will find aviation-themed design elements, modern in-room amenities like wireless chargers, a rooftop pool, and a deck with views of the airport, runways and Music City’s iconic skyline. This swanky airport hotel offers a number of dining options, including the all-day Aviators Restaurant and BNA Sky Pavilion, a cocktail bar with great views. There’s also a coffee shop and Music Lounge, where drinks are served with a side of live music.

Nightly rates at Hilton BNA Nashville Airport Terminal start around $211 or 55,000 Hilton Honors points.
