Subtle, a pioneering Voice AI startup, has introduced a groundbreaking pair of wireless earbuds designed to enhance communication in noisy environments. The company made the official announcement of the earbuds just ahead of the highly anticipated Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The product is set to be released in the U.S. market within the next few months, priced at $199. Subtle has integrated a specialized chip that allows the earbuds to wake the iPhone even when it is locked.

Subtle is positioning itself as a strong competitor to existing AI-powered voice dictation apps such as Wispr Flow, Willow, Monologue, and Superwhisper. The company’s unique offering allows users to dictate in any app using the voice buds, boasting significantly lower error rates compared to AirPods Pro 3 combined with OpenAI’s transcription model.

In a demonstration witnessed by JS, the voice buds showcased exceptional audio capture capabilities in challenging environments. Even in noisy backgrounds, the earbuds were able to accurately transcribe voice notes, including instances where Subtle’s co-founder and CEO, Tyler Chen, spoke in a soft whisper.

Tyler Chen explained, “We are witnessing a significant shift towards voice as a primary interface adopted by many individuals. Voice offers a more natural and versatile interaction compared to traditional keyboards. However, people tend to shy away from using voice interfaces in public settings. By leveraging our noise isolation technology, we aim to provide consumers with a seamless voice interface experience through our innovative earbuds.”

Notable companies like Sandbar and Pebble have previously introduced wearable devices for note-taking. Subtle aims to consolidate various functionalities, including dictation, AI chat, and voice notes, into a single, user-friendly package comprising the earbuds and app.
