YouTube TV subscribers can now relax knowing that NBC Universal’s lineup is here to stay. Google and NBC have recently reached a new multi-year agreement, ensuring that NBC’s sports coverage, popular shows, and news content will continue to be available on the platform. This agreement comes after tense negotiations earlier in the year that almost led to NBC content disappearing from YouTube TV due to disagreements over pricing and distribution.
The renewed partnership means that YouTube TV subscribers will have ongoing access to NBC Universal’s wide range of content. This includes popular channels such as NBC, Telemundo, Bravo, CNBC, Golf Channel, E!, Oxygen True Crime, MSNBC, USA Network, Syfy, and Universo. Additionally, NBC Sports Network will be making a comeback later this year, providing subscribers with more sports coverage alongside NBC’s broadcast. Peacock will also be introduced as an optional add-on through YouTube Primetime Channels in the coming months. The agreement also extends Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s presence on Google TV and YouTube TV. Justin Connolly, YouTube’s Global Head of Media & Sports, emphasized, “This agreement builds on our long-standing partnership with NBC, ensuring viewers can access content in the way they prefer.”
While NBC fans can celebrate this deal, Univision fans may be disappointed as Google has not reached a similar agreement with the Spanish-language media giant. Univision had accused YouTube TV of planning to move its channel to premium plans, charging viewers an extra $15 per month. Google, however, argues that Univision’s content does not warrant this demand, leading to the decision to make this change.
In conclusion, the agreement between Google and NBC brings good news to YouTube TV subscribers, with NBC’s content remaining available on the platform. While there may be some disappointment for Univision fans, the ongoing partnership between Google and NBC ensures that viewers can continue to enjoy a wide variety of content on YouTube TV.
