Why Baby Sleep Books Can Harm Maternal Mental Health

Becoming a parent comes with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to ensuring your baby gets enough sleep. Many new parents turn to popular baby sleep manuals for guidance, hoping to find the key to getting their little one to sleep through the night. One such bestseller, “Twelve hours against twelve weeks,” promised a solution to sleep deprivation by following a strict set of rules. However, for one mother, the reality was far from what the book had suggested.

The mother, struggling with lack of sleep and the demands of caring for her newborn baby, found herself at a breaking point. Despite following the guidelines laid out in the book, her baby, Lily, had other plans. With undiagnosed reflux and a constant need for feeding every two hours, Lily’s sleep patterns did not align with the book’s promises.
