In the realm of smartphones, there has been a consistent push towards enhancing various features such as the camera and screen quality. This usually results in higher prices for devices. However, OnePlus appears to be taking a different approach with its upcoming flagship model, the OnePlus 15, by aiming for a more affordable price point.
Recent leaks from the OnePlus Club on X/Twitter suggest that the OnePlus 15 may be priced lower than its predecessor due to a strategic shift inspired by the success of the brand iQOO, especially in the Chinese market. This new approach, dubbed the “iQOO approach,” focuses on optimizing performance while cutting costs in other areas to offer a more budget-friendly option.
Rumors surrounding the OnePlus 15 indicate that it will be a powerhouse in terms of power and speed. Speculations point towards a remarkable 165Hz OLED display, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a sizable 7,000mAh battery with rapid 120W wired charging, and strong durability with an IP68 or IP69 rating.
To achieve a lower price point, OnePlus is reportedly making cost-saving decisions in the camera department. There are talks of potential downgrades in camera sensors, such as a smaller telephoto lens and a possibly reduced main sensor. Additionally, the brand may be moving away from its high-cost partnership with Hasselblad to an in-house image processing brand called “DetailMax” to save on licensing fees while still providing a satisfactory photo experience.
By prioritizing raw performance elements like fast processors, a seamless display, and long battery life, OnePlus is making a bold move to cater to an audience that values these features over other premium offerings. While the exact pricing remains unknown, it is evident that OnePlus is positioning itself as a strong contender in the high-end market by offering competitive pricing. The success of this strategy outside of China remains to be seen and will be something to watch for in the future.
