The Super Bowl in Silicon Valley: A Tech-Filled Affair
The upcoming Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Silicon Valley is set to be a star-studded event with tech moguls in attendance. The likes of YouTube CEO Neal Mohan and Apple’s Tim Cook are expected to grace the event, with Cook becoming a regular fixture at the Super Bowl since Apple Music started sponsoring the halftime show.
Longtime venture capitalist Venky Ganesan from Menlo Ventures provided an interesting perspective on the event, likening it to “tech billionaires who got picked last in gym class paying $50,000 to pretend they’re friends with the guys who got picked first.” Ganesan humorously added, “And for the record, I, too, was picked last in gym class.”
Ganesan’s jest aside, it’s evident that tech titans like him could easily afford the pricey $50,000 tickets. Menlo Ventures recently delved into AI investments, partnering with Anthropic in a $100 million fund to support AI startups. Additionally, Anthropic is on track to secure a massive $20 billion round of funding at a staggering post-money valuation of $350 billion.
Securing a ticket to the Super Bowl doesn’t come cheap, with prices averaging nearly $7,000. However, last-minute deals can be found on platforms like StubHub for around $3,600. Interestingly, a large percentage of ticket buyers (27%) hail from Washington State, rooting for the Seahawks, who have only clinched one Super Bowl victory compared to the Patriots’ six titles with Tom Brady at the helm.
Noteworthy tech giants like Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon, and Meta are gearing up for an ad showdown, flaunting their AI prowess to consumers. This could potentially draw their respective CEOs to the event, especially considering their proximity to Silicon Valley.
This year marks the third time the Bay Area is hosting the Super Bowl, with previous editions in 1985 at Stanford Stadium and a decade ago at Levi’s Stadium. As the countdown to the big game begins, the tech-infused atmosphere promises a thrilling spectacle both on and off the field.
