Google has introduced its third-generation foldable device, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, despite having previously released the Pixel Fold in 2023 and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold last year. While the design may appear similar to last year’s model, there are notable improvements, such as being the first foldable with an IP68 rating.

The question arises, is the Pixel 10 Pro Fold a worthy upgrade? Let’s delve into a comprehensive review to find out.

Design and Build Quality:
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold showcases an iterative design change this year, with a smaller hinge and a slightly larger front display. The device feels premium in hand, albeit heavier and thicker compared to other foldables on the market. The rounded corners on the display may seem odd for a foldable, impacting screen real estate. The camera bump is less pronounced, with the addition of the Pixel RingStand balancing it out.

Display:
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold addresses the brightness issue seen in previous models, boasting a peak brightness of 3,000nits on the inner display and 2,000nits on the outer display. Colors are vibrant, making content consumption a delightful experience. While the crease is noticeable, it doesn’t detract significantly from the viewing experience.

Performance:
Powered by the Tensor G5 chip, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers smooth performance and minimal heating during regular use. Gaming performance may be impacted on certain titles, but for casual gaming, the device performs admirably.

Battery Life and Charging:
Google has improved battery life on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, offering a full day’s usage with around 6-7 hours of screen-on time. The charging speed has been increased to 30W, though it remains on the slower side. The addition of PixelSnap for magnetic charging is a convenient feature.

Software:
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold runs on the latest version of Android with Material 3 Expressive, providing a fresh software experience. Features like Magic Cue, Live Translation in calls, and Daily Hub enhance the user experience, though some features may require further optimization.

Camera:
The primary 48MP camera on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold captures great photos, with software processing enhancing image quality. Night photography may present challenges, but the overall camera performance is commendable.

Verdict:
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is a solid choice for those seeking a premium Google software experience on a foldable device with improved battery life and convenient features like PixelSnap. However, if camera performance is a top priority or if you seek the best foldable software, you may consider other options.

Should you buy the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold?

  • Yes, if:
    • You prioritize the Google software experience on a foldable device.
    • Excellent battery life is a key consideration.
    • You value the convenience of PixelSnap/Magnetic charging.
  • No, if:
    • Camera performance is a top priority for you.
    • You are seeking the best foldable software experience.

In conclusion, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers a compelling package for users looking for a well-rounded foldable device with Google’s signature software experience and improved features.
