Spotify’s Discover Weekly Playlist Gets an Exciting Update
Spotify’s iconic Discover Weekly playlist, known for curating fresh music recommendations every Monday, is receiving a major upgrade. After a decade since its inception, Spotify Premium users will now have access to new controls at the top of the playlist, allowing them to fine-tune their recommendations based on specific genres.
If you’re a fan of 80s rock but are starting to explore the world of K-pop, these new genre filters will help steer the algorithmic curation in the right direction, ensuring that your playlist reflects your evolving tastes accurately.
This latest feature aims to empower users by giving them more control over the type of music they want to discover through their personalized playlists. According to Spotify, Discover Weekly has seen over 100 billion tracks streamed, with 77% of listens attributed to emerging artists.
To access the enhanced Discover Weekly experience, Spotify Premium subscribers can simply navigate to the “Made for You” section and locate their Discover Weekly playlist. If they have the latest version of the Spotify app installed, they will be greeted with the new genre controls, allowing them to tailor their listening experience further.
Despite Spotify’s heavy reliance on algorithms for music recommendations, the platform has been introducing features that prioritize user input. In addition to the genre filters, Spotify has revamped the queue system, enabling users to preview upcoming recommendations and select which tracks they want to keep in rotation. Moreover, listeners can now “snooze” songs that they’re tired of hearing, giving them a break from the track for thirty days without permanently removing it from their library.
