The Evolution of Ram 1500: From All-Electric to Extended-Range
Stellantis, the parent company of Ram, recently made a significant announcement regarding the future of their electric pickup trucks. The all-electric Ram 1500 REV has been discontinued due to low demand for full-size battery-electric trucks in North America. However, this doesn’t mean the end of innovation for Ram’s electric lineup. Instead, Stellantis is shifting its focus to the development of an extended-range version of the Ram 1500 REV, previously known as the Ramcharger.
The decision to discontinue the all-electric Ram 1500 was based on market trends and consumer demand. Stellantis recognized the need to reassess their product strategy and pivot towards a more practical solution. The new Ram 1500 REV is set to redefine the half-ton segment by offering exceptional range, towing capability, and payload performance.
While the transition from an all-electric to an extended-range model may seem confusing, the benefits of this new approach are clear. The extended-range Ram 1500 is expected to achieve an impressive 690 miles of range by combining a battery with a gas generator, providing a versatile and efficient solution for drivers.
The initial plans for the Ram 1500 all-electric pickup were part of Stellantis’ ambitious goal to introduce over 25 new battery-electric vehicles by the end of the decade. However, uncertainties surrounding the future of the electric truck led to a strategic shift in focus.
Following delays in production timelines and evolving market conditions, Stellantis decided to prioritize the development of the extended-range Ram 1500. Despite the changes, the automaker remains committed to launching the new model in 2026, offering consumers a cutting-edge solution that combines electric power with extended range capabilities.
