PayPal Appoints Enrique Lores as CEO and President
In a recent announcement, PayPal revealed that Enrique Lores, previously the chair of PayPal’s board, will be taking on the role of CEO and President, replacing Alex Chriss. The decision was made due to the company’s need to align its pace of change and execution with broader market trends.
Chriss, who joined PayPal in 2023 from Ituit, will be succeeded by Jamie Miller, PayPal’s CFO and COO, as the interim CEO until Lores officially takes over.
Challenges and Forecasts
PayPal’s fourth-quarter results fell below expectations, attributed to a decrease in consumer spending amidst economic challenges. The company also predicted a decline in full-year profits, surprising investors who anticipated growth projections instead. As a result, PayPal’s shares experienced a significant drop in premarket trading.
Exciting Vision for the Future
Lores, with over six years of experience as the President and CEO of HP, expressed his commitment to driving innovation and accountability at PayPal. He emphasized the rapidly evolving payments industry, driven by technology, regulations, competition, and AI advancements. Lores stated, “PayPal sits at the center of this change, and I look forward to leading the team to accelerate the delivery of new innovations and shape the future of digital payments and commerce.”
