The resurgence of interest in BlackBerry phones in 2025 has taken the tech world by storm, with social media influencers leading the charge in promoting a ‘digital detox’ by switching to classic BlackBerry models. While no new BlackBerry models are expected to be released, a Chinese firm, Zinwa Technologies, is reviving old models with upgraded hardware and software, bringing them up to modern standards.

One of the first models to be relaunched is the BlackBerry Classic (Q20), which will now be known as the Zinwa Q25 Pro. This revamped version will feature a new processor, increased RAM, storage, battery, 4G LTE support, and upgraded cameras, running on Android 13. The nostalgia-inducing device is set to be released in September at a price point of $400.

In addition to the BlackBerry Classic, Zinwa has plans to refresh other iconic models such as the KEYone and Passport, rumored to be named the K25 and P26, respectively. A leaked image of the Zinwa Q27, with classic BlackBerry design elements and premium specifications like a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor and 12GB of RAM, has also generated excitement among fans.

While there are no plans for BlackBerry itself to release a new phone in 2025, rumors have surfaced about a UK startup seeking funding to revive the brand, potentially bringing back the Classic and other models with updated features like an AMOLED screen, 5G connectivity, and Android 15.

The newfound popularity of BlackBerry phones in 2025 can be attributed to a viral trend on social media, particularly among Gen Z users looking to disconnect from the constant distractions of modern smartphones. Influencers on platforms like TikTok and YouTube have been showcasing their experiences with BlackBerry devices, sparking a wave of interest in the brand.

As the tech world continues to evolve, the revival of BlackBerry phones serves as a nostalgic reminder of a simpler time in mobile communication, making them a unique choice for those looking to unplug and embrace a more minimalist lifestyle in the digital age.

However, as the year progressed, there was no sign of the promised device. Eventually, OnwardMobility announced that they had ceased operations due to financial difficulties, effectively killing any hope of a new BlackBerry phone hitting the market.

This news was disappointing for fans of the brand who were eagerly awaiting a modern take on the iconic BlackBerry experience. The company had promised a device with a physical keyboard, robust security features, and the familiar BlackBerry productivity suite.

Despite this setback, the spirit of BlackBerry lives on in the hearts of loyal users who continue to cherish their classic devices. The BlackBerry name may no longer be at the forefront of the smartphone market, but its legacy endures in the memories of those who appreciated its unique blend of functionality and style.

In conclusion, while you may not be able to run a BlackBerry in 2025, you can still hold onto your old device as a nostalgic reminder of a bygone era in smartphone history. Who knows, maybe one day the brand will make a comeback and reignite the passion of its dedicated fanbase. Until then, we can only look back fondly on the days when BlackBerry ruled the mobile world. A year had passed since the initial announcement, yet there was still no sign of the anticipated ‘Berry phone.

In late July 2021, a new initiative called the “Pre-Commitment Program” was introduced by the company. This program aimed to engage fans and businesses in providing feedback on the development process of the first 5G BlackBerry. Participants also had the opportunity to gain early access for pre-orders once the phone was ready for release.

Despite the lack of specific details on the phone’s release date, the program sign-up page indicated that OnwardMobility was actively working on the device’s development. However, the final design, specifications, and features were yet to be finalized.

With the discontinuation of software support for legacy BlackBerry devices on 4 January 2022, the focus shifted back to OnwardMobility. Fans were left in the dark about the progress and expected launch date of the new BlackBerry device.

On 5 January 2022, the company’s website remained static, with no updates or activity for months. This lack of communication raised doubts among fans about the future of the project.

A blog post titled “Contrary to popular belief, we are not dead” appeared on OnwardMobility’s blog on 6 January 2022. The post addressed the company’s silence and promised more regular updates to clarify the development status of the debut device.

Acknowledging the challenges faced in 2021, the post mentioned delays that prevented the phone’s release as initially promised. Despite renewed commitment from OnwardMobility, BlackBerry decided to cancel the license, leading to the project’s demise.

On 10 February, it was confirmed that OnwardMobility’s efforts had come to an end. The cancellation of the license, coupled with BlackBerry selling off its mobile patent portfolio, contributed to the decision to shut down the project.

The planned BlackBerry device was expected to be a secure, feature-rich 5G phone, focusing on productivity. The involvement of BlackBerry (the company) at the software level was likely, similar to its partnership with TCL for licensed phones.

While the cancellation of OnwardMobility’s license was unexpected, BlackBerry’s trend of selling off its patents was not new. The company had been gradually divesting its mobile patent portfolio over the years.

The intended device by OnwardMobility was said to draw inspiration from the BlackBerry Priv, the last phone produced by BlackBerry running on Android. The new BlackBerry aimed to be a high-end, feature-rich device, distinct from previous models like the KeyOne and Key2. Title: The Top 5 Sustainable Fashion Trends for 2021

As we move into the new year, more and more people are becoming conscious of the impact their fashion choices have on the environment. Sustainable fashion is no longer just a trend, but a necessity in the industry. With that in mind, here are the top 5 sustainable fashion trends for 2021 that you need to know about.

1. Upcycling and Repurposing: One of the biggest trends in sustainable fashion for 2021 is upcycling and repurposing old clothing. Instead of throwing away old clothes, more people are getting creative and finding new ways to give them a second life. Whether it’s turning an old t-shirt into a tote bag or transforming a pair of jeans into a trendy denim jacket, upcycling is a great way to reduce waste and create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.

2. Slow Fashion: Another major trend for 2021 is the rise of slow fashion. This movement focuses on quality over quantity, encouraging consumers to invest in well-made, timeless pieces that will last for years to come. By choosing to buy fewer, higher-quality items, you can help reduce the demand for fast fashion and its harmful effects on the environment.

3. Sustainable Fabrics: In 2021, we can expect to see a surge in the use of sustainable fabrics in fashion. From organic cotton and hemp to recycled polyester and Tencel, more designers are opting for eco-friendly materials that have less of an impact on the planet. By choosing clothing made from sustainable fabrics, you can feel good about your fashion choices and help support a more sustainable industry.

4. Gender-Neutral Fashion: Gender-neutral fashion is on the rise in 2021, with more brands offering unisex clothing options that are inclusive and versatile. By breaking away from traditional gender norms, designers are creating clothing that can be worn by anyone, regardless of gender. This trend not only promotes equality and diversity in the fashion industry but also reduces the need for separate men’s and women’s collections, leading to less waste and more sustainable practices.

5. Local and Ethical Production: Finally, in 2021, we can expect to see a greater emphasis on local and ethical production in the fashion industry. More brands are choosing to work with local artisans and manufacturers, supporting their communities and ensuring fair wages and working conditions for workers. By opting for clothing that is ethically produced, you can feel confident that your purchases are making a positive impact on both people and the planet.

In conclusion, sustainable fashion is more important than ever in 2021, and these trends are just a few examples of how the industry is evolving to meet the demands of conscious consumers. By embracing upcycling, slow fashion, sustainable fabrics, gender-neutral designs, and ethical production, you can help shape a more sustainable future for the fashion industry. So why not make a difference with your fashion choices this year and embrace these trends for a more sustainable wardrobe?
