Nestlé CEO Laurent Freixe Dismissed Due to Code of Conduct Breach
Nestlé made a sudden decision to remove CEO Laurent Freixe from his position after uncovering a romantic relationship with a subordinate that violated the company’s code of conduct. This development was announced on Monday, with Philipp Navratil, the current head of Nespresso, appointed as the new chief executive in Freixe’s place.
Nestlé’s chairman, Paul Bulcke, emphasized the importance of upholding the company’s values and governance, leading to the necessary action taken against Freixe. This marks the third CEO transition at Nestlé within a relatively short timeframe.
Changes and Progress Under Freixe’s Leadership
During Freixe’s tenure as CEO, Nestlé implemented strategic changes such as separating its water and premium beverages unit and reviewing underperforming brands in the vitamins, minerals, and supplements division for potential divestment. The company also focused on increasing advertising and marketing efforts to enhance the performance of its key brands.
These efforts seemed to yield positive results, with Nestlé reporting organic growth of 2.9% in the first half of 2025. The Zone Americas business, which contributes significantly to Nestlé’s sales, experienced a 2.1% increase during this period.
Philipp Navratil’s Background and Future Plans
Navratil’s extensive experience within Nestlé, starting as an internal auditor in 2001 and later overseeing various business units, positioned him well for the CEO role. His recent success with Nespresso in driving growth and momentum aligns with Nestlé’s strategic goals.
As Navratil takes on his new responsibilities, he faces challenges such as consumer spending declines, global economic uncertainties, and cost pressures on ingredients like coffee and cocoa. Despite these obstacles, Navratil is committed to continuing the strategic direction set by Freixe and driving value creation within Nestlé.
Navratil expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Nestlé’s leadership team to execute the company’s plans with intensity and drive performance improvements. This seamless transition reflects Nestlé’s commitment to navigating challenges and maximizing opportunities under new leadership.
