French AI Startup Mistral AI Secures €2 Billion Investment, Valued at $14 Billion
Reports from Bloomberg indicate that Mistral AI, a French AI startup, is in the final stages of securing a €2 billion investment, which would place the company at a post-money valuation of $14 billion. This significant investment solidifies Mistral AI’s position as one of Europe’s most valuable tech startups. Founded by former researchers from DeepMind and Meta, Mistral AI specializes in developing open source language models and Le Chat, an AI chatbot tailored for European audiences.
While Mistral AI has not officially commented on the report, this funding round marks a substantial milestone for the company. This would be Mistral’s first major raise since June 2024 when it was valued at €5.8 billion. To date, Mistral AI has raised over €1 billion from prominent investors such as Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst.
European AI Startups Experience Surge in Investment
The investment in Mistral AI comes at a time when European AI startups are experiencing unprecedented momentum. According to Dealroom, European AI companies saw a 55% increase in year-on-year investment in the first quarter of 2025. Additionally, 12 European startups achieved unicorn status in the first half of the year. Sweden’s Lovable, an AI coding platform, is also making waves in the industry, reaching a valuation of $1.8 billion in just eight months since its launch.
