Snackruptors Acquires Hain Celestial Group’s North American Snacks Business
A snacks maker based in Cambridge, Ont., Snackruptors, is set to acquire the North American snacks business of the Hain Celestial Group for $115 million. This acquisition includes popular brands such as Garden Veggie snacks, Terra chips, and Garden of Eatin’ snacks.
The president of Snackruptors, Rick Taborda, expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating, “We’re thrilled to be acquiring this established portfolio of delicious snacks that consumers already know and love. We believe these brands have significant growth potential and are a great fit with our existing business.”
Hain Celestial Group’s North America snacks business accounted for 22% of the company’s $1.56 billion in net sales in fiscal 2025 and 38% of the North America segment net sales of $888.6 million during the same period. However, it has contributed “negligible” EBITDA over the past 12 months. With the sale of the snacks business, Hain Celestial anticipates a stronger financial profile for the remaining portfolio in North America, with EBITDA margins in the low double digits and gross margins above 30%.
Following the completion of the transaction, Hain Celestial will continue to have a presence in categories such as tea, yogurt, baby/kids, and meal preparation through brands like Celestial Seasonings, The Greek Gods, Earth’s Best Organic, and Spectrum Organic.
Strategic Changes at Hain Celestial Group
The announcement of this deal comes after Hain Celestial initiated a strategic review of its business nine months ago. The company hired Goldman Sachs & Co. to assist with the review and explore various strategic options to enhance value. As part of this review, Hain Celestial also implemented a plan to reduce 30% of its stock-keeping units in North America.
Alison E. Lewis took over as interim president and CEO of Hain Celestial following the departure of then-chief executive officer Wendy Davidson. Lewis was officially appointed as CEO in mid-December.
Future Plans and Portfolio
As part of the company’s strategic focus, Hain Celestial aims to leverage its organizational capabilities in key markets. The proceeds from the sale of the snacks business will be utilized to reduce debt, strengthen the company’s financial position, and improve its leverage profile. This financial flexibility will enable increased investments over time, driving sustainable, profitable growth and creating long-term shareholder value.
Garden Veggie, Garden of Eatin’, and Terra have been longstanding brands in Hain Celestial’s portfolio, with acquisitions dating back to 1998 and 2010. Snackruptors, formerly known as RDJ Bakeries, specializes in producing crackers for the private label industry.
The transaction is expected to close by Feb. 28, marking a significant milestone for both companies. FBN
