Grammarly Introduces Innovative Feature to Enhance Writing Skills

A new addition to Grammarly aims to elevate users’ writing abilities by drawing inspiration from renowned writers, thinkers, and even tech journalists.

Expert Review Unveiled by Grammarly in August 2025

Expert Review was launched as part of Grammarly’s suite of AI-powered features. This new feature appears in the sidebar of Grammarly’s primary writing assistant, offering users revision suggestions from the viewpoint of subject matter experts.

Wired highlighted that Grammarly presents feedback as if it is coming from well-known authors, whether contemporary or historical. Additionally, as reported by The Verge, the feedback may even seem to originate from tech journalists at prominent publications like The Verge, Wired, Bloomberg, The New York Times, and others.

Upon testing the feature, it was observed that the feedback provided did not include insights from JS. Instead, suggestions focused on adding ethical context, aligning with readers through anecdotes, and raising accountability questions, drawing comparisons to prominent JS personalities.

While some may find this approach questionable, Grammarly’s Alex Gay clarified that these experts are referenced based on their publicly available and widely cited works, without their direct involvement or endorsement.

In its user guide, Grammarly emphasizes that references to experts are for informational purposes only and do not imply any affiliation or endorsement by the individuals mentioned.

Expert Review: An Examination of Its Credibility

Despite being labeled as “expert reviews,” concerns have been raised regarding the actual involvement of experts in producing the feedback. Historian C.E. Aubin argued that without genuine expert input, these reviews may not truly qualify as expert opinions.
