OpenAI Enhances GPT-5 Model to Be More Approachable
OpenAI made headlines with the announcement that it is updating its latest model to be “warmer and friendlier.” The company recently rolled out GPT-5, a highly anticipated release that CEO Sam Altman acknowledged faced some challenges during its launch. Some users expressed a preference for the previous model, GPT-4o.
Responding to user feedback, OpenAI has introduced subtle changes to GPT-5 to address concerns and make the model more approachable. These updates aim to provide a more welcoming and engaging experience for users interacting with the AI.
According to a social media post by OpenAI, the enhancements include small, genuine touches such as responses like “Good question” or “Great start,” without resorting to flattery. The company assures that these updates do not increase sycophantic behavior compared to the previous version of GPT-5.
During a recent dinner with journalists, OpenAI executives discussed the company’s future plans beyond GPT-5. However, the rocky launch of the latest model remained a topic of conversation. VP Nick Turley noted that GPT-5 was initially perceived as “very to the point,” but the recent update aims to make the AI feel warmer and more friendly.
