Google Photos is Testing a New TikTok-Style Video Discovery Feature

Google Photos is currently in the testing phase for a new feature that resembles TikTok, aiming to help users discover related video clips more easily. This feature is akin to the Memories tool but focuses on video content, using artificial intelligence to group videos based on shared details like location or event.

According to Android Authority, version 7.60 of the Google Photos app for Android introduces a “Related videos” button when users watch a video clip. Clicking on this button opens an explore page showcasing various short-form videos, automatically curated by AI.

The primary goal of this feature is to enable users to rediscover videos from the same day, location, or activity without the need for manual searching. Although still in the testing phase, the results may currently be slightly inaccurate or mixed but are expected to be refined before the feature’s public release.

The explore page displays videos in a vertical feed format, resembling popular short video platforms like TikTok. Each video clip offers options to save, share, view details, and access all content captured on a specific date through the “View Day” feature.

Additionally, Google is experimenting with a light theme in the photo editor section, providing a brighter background for improved visibility when editing images. Both features are still under development and not yet available to the general audience. If testing goes smoothly, users can anticipate these additions in the upcoming weeks.
