Google and Apple Lawyers Advise Employees on Visa Stamp Delays
Law firms representing tech giants Google and Apple have issued warnings to employees regarding visa stamp delays that could impact their re-entry into the United States. According to a report by Business Insider, longer-than-usual visa processing times have prompted caution from legal representatives.
Business Insider has obtained memos from BAL Immigration Law, representing Google, and Fragomen, representing Apple, highlighting the potential risks associated with leaving the country for employees requiring a visa stamp to return to the U.S.
Travel Advisory for Employees
The memo from Fragomen reportedly advises employees without a valid H-1B visa stamp to avoid international travel at this time due to unpredictable and extended delays in visa processing. This recommendation aims to prevent any disruptions or complications in re-entering the United States.
A spokesperson from the State Department confirmed that embassies are currently prioritizing the thorough vetting of each visa case above all other considerations, leading to delays in visa processing.
Challenges Faced by Indian Professionals
In a related development, Salon reports that numerous Indian professionals who traveled to their home country in December to renew their U.S. work visas have experienced cancellations or rescheduling of embassy appointments. This disruption is attributed to new requirements for social media vetting, causing additional hurdles for visa applicants.
Response from Tech Companies
When approached for comments, Google and Apple, along with other major tech employers, have yet to respond to the recent developments. However, in September, these companies issued similar warnings following the announcement of a $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications by the White House.
As the situation evolves, employees and employers in the tech industry are advised to stay informed and cautious regarding international travel and visa processing delays.
