Life360 and Tile Integration: A Game-Changer in Tracking Technology
After Life360’s acquisition of Tile for $205 million over three and a half years ago, the long-awaited integration of the two services has finally arrived. In an exciting announcement on Wednesday, Life360 revealed that Tile’s item-finding capabilities are now fully integrated into its main app, marking a significant milestone for both platforms.
This integration means that users can now track not only their family members in real-time but also their valuable items such as wallets, keys, bags, and more, all within the Life360 app. By bringing together the functionalities of both services, Life360 aims to streamline the user experience and encourage Tile users to transition to its platform for all their tracking needs.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed that the integrated services will be rolled out gradually starting on Wednesday, reaching all users over the coming weeks. Tile users can expect to receive prompts within their app directing them to transition to Life360, while Life360 users will notice a new section dedicated to tracking items alongside their loved ones and pets on the Location tab.
With this update, Tiles associated with a Life360 family member will be visible on the in-app map in real-time. In case of a lost item, users can access up to two days of location history for free, with extended history available to subscription plan users based on their membership level. Silver members now also have access to emergency dispatch services through the Tile SOS button or the Life360 app, exclusive to 2024 Tile devices.
Furthermore, Life360 users can look forward to receiving automatic push notifications when their Tile-connected items are left behind, enhancing the overall tracking experience. The company plans to introduce this feature in the near future, promising added convenience for users.
Prior to this update, Life360 redirected the Tile.com domain to Life360.com, hinting at a more unified approach to the two services. While the company has not disclosed any plans to phase out the standalone Tile app, the eventual consolidation of functionalities in the Life360 app may lead to a strategic decision to discontinue the separate application.
In a statement made in 2022, Life360 expressed its intention to merge Tile into its primary app, envisioning a vast finding network if all Life360 users were to join Tile. However, with competitors like Chipolo entering the market with their own lost-item trackers compatible with Apple and Google’s finding networks, the landscape has become more competitive. Nonetheless, the integration of Tile into Life360 signifies a significant step forward in enhancing the tracking experience for users.
