Enhancing Meditation with Essential Oils

Combining my passion for yoga and essential oils, I have found a way to elevate my meditation practice. Initially used for head massages during savasana, essential oils have become an integral part of my meditation routine. They not only enhance the experience but also add a touch of relaxation and pleasant aroma. Here are three essential oil rituals that I love to incorporate into my meditation practice.

Achieving Balance

(Spruce Leaf, Ho Wood Leaf, Frankincense Resin, Blue Tansy Flower, and Blue Chamomile Flower)

A grounding blend that helps to calm your emotions and bring your body into a state of complete ease. I enjoy applying a few drops of this blend to the soles of my feet before meditation. It is also beneficial for moments of emotional turmoil or anxiety throughout the day – simply apply a drop or two to your wrists. Using this blend before bedtime can aid in a peaceful night’s sleep.

Embracing Frankincense

My preferred oil for meditation sessions. I often apply a drop to my third eye center or diffuse a few drops in the room. Frankincense is known for its spiritual properties, promoting grounding, balance, and openness, connecting you with your inner self.

This versatile oil can be used at any time, but caution should be taken as it is photosensitive. Avoid applying it to your third eye before exposure to sunlight.

Elevating with Essential Oils

(Lavandin Flower, Tangerine Peel, Lavender Flower/Leaf, Amyris Bark, Clary Sage Flower/Leaf, Hawaiian Sandalwood Wood, Ylang Ylang Flower, Ho Wood Leaf, Osmanthus Flower, Lemon Myrtle Leaf, and Melissa Flower/Leaf essential oils)

Elevation is a blend that uplifts and invigorates, perfect for morning meditation sessions. This blend of essential oils boosts mood, instills confidence, and increases energy levels. Applying this blend to pulse points on your wrists and neck or diffusing it can enhance your meditation experience.

Aligning Chakras with Essential Oils

Muladhara Chakra (Root) – Frankincense or Patchouli: Massage onto soles of feet.

Svadhistana Chakra (Sacral) – Ylang Ylang or Sandalwood: Apply to sacral chakra region.

Manipura Chakra (Solar Plexus) – Cinnamon or Peppermint: Massage onto belly in a clockwise direction.

Anahata Chakra (Heart) – Geranium or Rose: Apply to heart center.

Visshudha Chakra (Throat) – Lavender or Eucalyptus: Apply to throat area.

Ajna Chakra (Third Eye) – Lavender: Apply to third eye center.

Sahasrara (Crown) – Frankincense: Diffuse or massage onto crown.
