Billy Evans, Partner of Theranos Founder Elizabeth Holmes, Ventures into Health Optimization Startup
Billy Evans, the partner of infamous Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, is embarking on a new entrepreneurial journey with a startup focused on revolutionizing human health optimization through innovative blood testing technology, as reported by The New York Times.
According to The Times, potential investors have been briefed on the new venture named Haemanthus, and have had the opportunity to review some of the startup’s promotional materials.
Haemanthus boasts the development of a cutting-edge machine that utilizes laser technology to analyze blood, saliva, and urine samples for the early detection of cancer and infections. The startup plans to initially focus on enhancing pet health before expanding its services to cater to human health needs, with a fundraising goal set at over $50 million.
This ambitious pitch bears resemblance to the promises made by Theranos, which had pledged to conduct various medical tests using minimal amounts of blood extracted from finger pricks. Despite Holmes’ recent legal troubles resulting in an 11-year prison sentence for defrauding investors, she remains steadfast in her vision of making affordable healthcare accessible to all individuals.
Renowned early Facebook investor Jim Breyer revealed that his team was approached for potential investment in Haemanthus but opted out, citing similar concerns that led them to decline investing in Theranos on two separate occasions.
