In a recent interview with VentureBeat, Cisco executives Jeetu Patel and DJ Sampath discussed the evolving landscape of product companies and the increasing importance of integrating AI models. They emphasized the need for product companies to transition into model companies in order to stay competitive in the coming years.

Patel highlighted the interconnected nature of models and products, stating that successful companies will excel at building both. He stressed the significance of leveraging machine data, which currently makes up 55% of data growth but is often overlooked by existing AI models. Sampath echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of training models on enterprise-specific data to fully harness the potential of AI.

The executives also discussed the advantages of hardware companies in the era of software and AI. Patel pointed out that hardware can be a valuable asset when combined with software and AI models effectively. He highlighted the potential for correlating machine data with time series models to predict system failures and enhance infrastructure stability.

Cisco’s commitment to open source initiatives was another key topic of discussion. Sampath explained the decision to make security models open source, emphasizing the importance of equipping defenders with strong models to enhance cybersecurity. The executives also touched on the significance of partnerships in turning AI into a revenue opportunity, noting the upcoming Partner Summit in San Diego as a key event for activating global partners.

Overall, the interview showcased Cisco’s strategic approach to integrating AI models into its product offerings and highlighted the company’s commitment to open source collaboration and customer-centric innovation. The executives emphasized the need for product companies to adapt to the changing landscape by embracing AI models and leveraging machine data to stay ahead of the competition.
