Astronomer Tries to Shift Narrative with Gwyneth Paltrow Video
Data operations startup Astronomer has been making headlines recently due to a social media scandal. In an attempt to change the conversation, the company has released a lighthearted video featuring actress and entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow.
Paltrow, who was previously married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin, became involved in the Astronomer saga when CEO Andy Byron and Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot were caught on the “kiss cam” at a Coldplay concert in Massachusetts. The pair, who are both reportedly married to other people, tried to hide from the camera, leading Martin to joke about their behavior.
The incident went viral, resulting in both Byron and Cabot resigning from Astronomer. The company stated that their leaders are expected to uphold high standards of conduct and accountability, which were not met in this situation.
Despite the sudden fame for reasons unrelated to their product, Astronomer emphasized that their technology and work for customers remain unchanged. Their new marketing video aims to redirect the focus back to their technology while acknowledging the challenges they face.
In the video, Paltrow humorously introduces herself as a temporary spokesperson for Astronomer’s 300-plus employees. She addresses common questions about the company, alluding to the recent scandal, but maintains a positive and on-brand message.
“We’ve been thrilled so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation,” she says in the video, also promoting Astronomer’s upcoming conference. Paltrow concludes by emphasizing the company’s commitment to delivering exceptional results for their customers.
