Apple Introduces Customizable Liquid Glass Feature in Latest Update
Apple has recently unveiled a new feature that allows users to personalize their experience with Liquid Glass. In the latest beta update for iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26, users now have the option to choose between a Clear or Tinted appearance for Liquid Glass.
This addition demonstrates Apple’s commitment to listening to user feedback and providing options for customization. The tech giant is known for making significant changes to its operating systems, but it also understands the importance of offering flexibility for users who may prefer different settings.
Apple’s decision to introduce the option to customize Liquid Glass comes after similar feedback received when Safari’s address bar was moved to the bottom of the screen in 2021. Following user backlash, Apple added the option to revert the address bar to its original position at the top of the screen.
The new user interface introduced in iOS 26 marked Apple’s most significant design overhaul since transitioning from skeuomorphic to flat design in 2013. While some users praised the modern update, others found certain elements of the Liquid Glass design to be challenging to read.
Given the mixed response to Liquid Glass, Apple is now empowering users to control the appearance of this feature. The latest update allows users to select either a Clear or Tinted look for Liquid Glass, enhancing visibility and personalization.
Personalizing Your Liquid Glass Experience
The new feature, discovered by 9to5Mac, is available in iOS 26.1 beta 4 and the corresponding updates for tablets and desktops. Users can access the customization option through the “Display & Brightness” menu on iOS devices and the “Appearance” menu on Mac systems.
While some users had requested a slider for more precise opacity control, Apple has opted for a simple toggle between Clear and Tinted settings. This decision streamlines the user experience and enables developers to test their apps under different visibility conditions.
Developers who have integrated Liquid Glass into their apps will automatically apply the user’s chosen preference. This feature is currently available for testing in the 26.1 developer beta.
Enhancing User Interface Elements
Upon selecting their preferred setting, users will notice changes across various interface elements, including Now Playing controls, Lock Screen notifications, and both Apple and third-party apps. The public beta for this feature is expected to roll out in the coming days, leading up to the official release.
Apple’s introduction of customizable Liquid Glass reflects its commitment to user feedback and continuous improvement. By offering users the ability to tailor their visual experience, Apple aims to enhance usability and satisfaction across its platforms.
