This past week, 20 innovative startups showcased their talents at the Startup Battlefield during JS Disrupt. Hand-picked from a pool of Startup Battlefield 200 contenders, these startups competed for the prestigious Startup Battlefield Cup and a cash prize of $100,000. After rigorous pitching sessions, a winner emerged victorious.
The startups selected for the Startup Battlefield presented live demos in front of a panel of esteemed VCs and tech leaders who served as judges for the competition.
Following meticulous deliberations, the JS editors carefully reviewed the judges’ feedback and narrowed down the list to the final five contenders: Charter Space, Glīd, MacroCycle, Nephrogen, and Unlisted Homes.
These final five finalists advanced to the grand finale to showcase their products in front of a distinguished panel of judges, which included notable figures such as Aileen Lee, founder of Cowboy Ventures, and Kevin Rose, founder of Digg.
Without further ado, the winner of the JS Startup Battlefield 2024 is Glīd.
Glīd, pronounced as “Glide,” aims to simplify the intricate process of moving shipping containers from a ship to a freight train. The company has developed innovative hardware and software solutions to expedite and reduce the costs associated with transporting shipping containers to the railhead and their final destination. Their flagship product, GliderM, is a hybrid-electric vehicle equipped with a hook that can efficiently move 20-foot containers directly to the rail without the need for traditional forklifts or hostler trucks.

In addition to the winner, the runner-up of the competition is Nephrogen.
Nephrogen is a biotech startup that leverages AI and advanced screening techniques to create a specialized delivery system for effectively delivering gene-editing medications to specific cells in the kidney. Founder Demetri Maxim shared that after three years of intensive research and development, Nephrogen has achieved a breakthrough in creating a delivery mechanism that is 100 times more efficient at transporting medicine to the kidney compared to existing FDA-approved methods. Maxim, who battles polycystic kidney disease, intends to participate in the clinical trial himself to further demonstrate the effectiveness of their solution.
