Google Introduces Preferred Sources Feature for Enhanced Search Experience

Google has recently unveiled a new feature called ‘Preferred Sources’ for its Search platform. As the name implies, this feature allows users to personalize their search results by selecting specific or preferred sources. Whether it’s your go-to sports blog or local newspaper, you now have the option to prioritize these sources and see them more prominently on Google Search. The feature, which was initially tested in June, aims to enhance user experience and streamline the search process.

The Preferred Sources feature is currently available in English for users in the US and India. It’s a simple and intuitive tool to use – when conducting a search on Google, users can click on the starred icon next to the Top Stories header. From there, they can enter the name of the publication or website they want to prioritize and refresh their search results accordingly.

Once selected, these preferred sources will be displayed in the “top stories” or “from your sources” section of the search results. These sources will be clearly labeled and will appear alongside other search results in the ‘Top Stories’ section, provided they have relevant content related to the search query.

It’s important to note that while there is no limit to the number of sources users can choose, it’s recommended to select only a few preferred sources to maintain the effectiveness of the feature. Having too many sources selected can dilute the purpose of the feature and might overwhelm users with information. By curating a select few favorite sources, users can streamline their news consumption and stay informed from the outlets they trust the most.

This new feature comes at a time when studies suggest that Google AI Summaries are reshaping user behavior by providing concise answers that lead to quicker session endings. By empowering users to customize their search experience with Preferred Sources, Google aims to offer a more personalized and efficient way to access news and information online.

In conclusion, Google’s Preferred Sources feature is a welcome addition for users looking to tailor their search results and focus on their preferred news sources. By leveraging this feature, users can stay informed and up-to-date with content from sources they trust, without the need for multiple news apps. As Google continues to innovate and enhance its search capabilities, the Preferred Sources feature demonstrates the company’s commitment to improving user experience and customization options.
