Google Maps users are reportedly encountering a new bug that is causing the app to crash specifically when searching for transit directions. Despite attempting various solutions, the issue persists. Android Police managed to replicate this bug on a specific version of the Google Maps app (version 25.30.00.78516346). Users experiencing this problem have taken to the official Google support forums to discuss their frustrations.
Only users seeking directions via public transit seem to be affected by this crashing issue. Reddit user XenonOxide shared their experience of the Google Maps app abruptly closing and returning to the home screen when searching for public transit directions. Similar reports have surfaced from users in different regions such as the US, UK, and Germany. Notably, other navigation options like cycling, walking, and driving directions are functioning normally.
Downdetector has shown a slight increase in complaints regarding the Google Maps app in the past few hours. While this may not be a major cause for concern yet, there does appear to be a problem with Google Maps, particularly with this version of the app across various locations. Interestingly, the app crashing issue does not seem to be present in slightly older versions of Google Maps.
Users have taken to the official Google support forum to voice their complaints about this bug. Despite attempting common fixes like clearing cache, data, uninstalling updates, and disabling location services, the problem persists. It is hoped that Google will address and resolve this issue promptly, considering the widespread use of Google Maps globally.
Currently, there doesn’t seem to be a temporary workaround for this bug, aside from potentially reverting to an older version of the Google Maps app.
