This week brought news of The Trump Organisation unveiling its very own mobile phone service, Trump Mobile, along with its inaugural handset, the T1.
The T1 has been making waves with its design that resembles a bar of gold bullion or, as some see it, a less than polished yellow phone. Its standout features include an asymmetrical bezel and a unique arrangement of camera lenses spaced apart wider than a deer’s eyes.

Trump Mobile proudly claims that the T1 is “MADE IN THE USA,” although doubts have been raised about this assertion given the complexities of phone manufacturing. The website has since revised the statement to a more vague “brought to life right here in the USA.”
Rumors suggest that the T1 may be based on the Wingtech Revvl 7 Pro and could be manufactured in one of three Chinese cities, contradicting the Made in the USA claim.
Wired notes that the only phone entirely manufactured in America is the Liberty Phone from Purism, priced at around $2,000. It’s unlikely that the T1 follows a similar high-end manufacturing process given its mid-range price.
If the origin of the phone is not a deal-breaker for you, why not create your own Trump T1 phone for less?
Here’s a guide on how to do it:
1. A budget handset
Start by identifying a budget-friendly handset with comparable features to the T1. While the T1’s specs include a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen, 120Hz refresh rate, 50Mp main camera, 5000mAh battery, and 256GB internal storage, similar or better specs can be found in cheaper alternatives.
Leaked information suggests that the T1 might be related to the Wingtech Revvl 7 Pro, but comparisons with other models like the Revvl 7 indicate a hybrid design. The Revvl 7 and Revvl 7 Pro are priced significantly lower than the T1, offering a more affordable option.
Consider the Samsung Galaxy A35 from the previous year, which provides a user-friendly experience with comparable or superior specs at a lower cost.

For a more budget-friendly alternative, the Samsung Galaxy A35 offers a similar experience to the T1 at a fraction of the cost.
2. A picture of a flag
The T1’s design includes a unique feature of displaying the time twice on the home screen, along with patriotic wallpapers. While replicating these features exactly may be challenging, a blurry photo of a flag can add a touch of patriotism to your DIY Trump phone.
3. A gold phone case
No Trump phone is complete without a touch of gold. Enhance your phone with a stylish gold case from Temu or opt for a DIY approach with a can of gold spray paint for a more personalized touch.

Total cost
For a DIY Trump phone kit, the total cost should not exceed £205/$275. Opting for the Samsung Galaxy A35 as the base handset, the overall cost should stay around £350/$410, inclusive of the gold spray paint for customization.
