Samsung is rumored to be working on its first tri-fold smartphone that could potentially feature a silicon-carbon battery, a technology that has been utilized by many Chinese smartphone manufacturers but not yet by Samsung, Apple, or Google.

The use of silicon-carbon batteries offers a higher energy density in a smaller package, allowing for increased battery capacity without increasing the size of the battery itself. This technology could have been beneficial for the rumored Galaxy S25 Edge, which is said to come with a 3,900mAh battery.

Reports from PandaFlash X suggest that Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold phone will feature a hinge mechanism similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and a squarish design. While it wouldn’t be surprising to see a silicon-carbon battery in this device, it’s essential to take this information with caution.

There are speculations that Samsung may unveil its first tri-fold device later this year, possibly during the second Unpacked event in July alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. Renowned leaker Ice Universe mentioned that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be incredibly thin, measuring 3.9mm when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded, potentially making it the thinnest in its category.

The use of a silicon-carbon battery in the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be a contributing factor to its remarkable thinness. As the smartphone industry continues to push boundaries in design and technology, Samsung’s adoption of this innovative battery technology could set a new standard for future devices.
