Bluesky, known for its innovative social networking platforms, has taken a bold step into the realm of artificial intelligence with the launch of their latest creation, Attie. Presented for the first time at the Atmosphere conference by Bluesky’s former CEO, Jay Graber, now the chief innovation officer, and Bluesky CTO Paul Frazee, Attie is an AI assistant that promises to revolutionize the way users interact with technology.

Attie is not just another run-of-the-mill AI assistant; it offers users the ability to design their own algorithms, create custom feeds, and potentially even vibe-code their own apps in the future. Leveraging Anthropic’s Claude technology under the hood, Attie is built on Bluesky’s AT Protocol, making it an agentic social app that stands out in a crowded market.

According to interim CEO Toni Schneider, Attie is a standalone product developed by Jay’s new team, distinct from the offerings within the Bluesky app. Users can easily build custom feeds by simply typing commands in natural language, similar to chatting with an AI chatbot. By signing in with their Atmosphere login, users allow Attie to understand their preferences and interests, creating a personalized feed tailored to their liking.

Schneider emphasizes that Attie puts control in the hands of users without the need for coding knowledge, opening up a world of possibilities for customization and personalization. The ultimate goal is to empower more people to build on top of the Atmosphere ecosystem, utilizing AI technology to benefit individuals rather than platforms.

With the initial launch, Attie enables users to create and view custom feeds, with plans to integrate these features into Bluesky and other atproto apps in the future. The long-term vision includes allowing users to develop their own social apps through vibe-coding and building tools for others to utilize.

Graber’s return to product development signals a shift towards user-centric AI technology, aiming to provide value to individuals rather than platforms. With $100 million in additional funding secured, Bluesky is poised to continue its mission of empowering users through open protocols and innovative products.

As Bluesky looks towards the future, the focus remains on enhancing privacy controls and exploring new monetization strategies, with a commitment to maintaining a decentralized social network free from crypto integration. The team’s dedication to building a community-driven platform bodes well for the future of Bluesky and its users.

The Potential of Atmosphere: A New Frontier for Community Hosting

Exploring new horizons in the digital realm, the concept of Atmosphere is gaining traction among tech enthusiasts. One of the intriguing ideas being considered is the introduction of subscriptions and hosting services for individuals looking to establish their own communities on this innovative protocol.

Drawing parallels to the success of WordPress, Matt Schneider, former CEO of Automattic, envisions Atmosphere as a platform with immense potential. He highlights the open nature of the system, allowing anyone to participate and contribute to a network of independent yet interconnected components.

In Schneider’s words, “The Atmosphere holds the promise of fostering a diverse ecosystem where various apps and services can coexist harmoniously, much like the thriving community surrounding WordPress. The decentralized nature of WordPress has propelled it to become a billion-dollar industry, and we aim to replicate this success with Atmosphere.”

The vision for Atmosphere is to create a vibrant ecosystem where different entities collaborate and innovate together, ultimately leading to the growth of a dynamic digital landscape. With the potential for billions of dollars to flow through this decentralized platform, the possibilities are endless.
