The Best Purchase I Made Last Year: A Dreamland Heated Throw Review
My Black Friday purchase from last year turned out to be the highlight of my year. This particular buy has provided me with warmth and comfort every single day since it arrived, and it has also helped me save a significant amount of money.
Before you jump to conclusions, let me clarify that it’s not my cat. I wouldn’t recommend buying a cat unless you enjoy being woken up by claws at 4 am – in that case, please take mine off my hands.
The star of my Black Friday purchase was a plug-in Dreamland heated throw that I snagged at a discount. Surprisingly, its price remains low even after the sale. While the recommended retail price is £94.99, you can purchase it directly from Dreamland for £59.99. Alternatively, it’s available on Amazon, although the price there is currently £69.99.
My particular choice was a mustard velvet throw with a chevron pattern, but there are various materials and designs available from different online retailers.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option, there’s a plain velvet throw in black or pink priced at £39.99 from Currys. Additionally, Dreamland’s Amazon store offers a wide selection, including faux fur options and even a Stranger Things-branded blanket.
What makes this heated throw worth the investment?
Firstly, it operates at 150W, costing me a maximum of 4p per hour on my current tariff. Even on a low setting, it keeps me warm in a cold room, resulting in lower actual energy consumption. In fact, I was able to request a refund from my energy supplier in January due to my reduced winter energy usage compared to their estimate.
The blanket boasts “Intelliheat” technology, which adjusts to your temperature needs. While the specifics of this technology are unclear, I can confirm that it has never overheated, even during prolonged use.
With six heat settings, I rarely need to go past setting three even on the coldest days. The built-in timer for one, three, or nine hours ensures that I never accidentally leave it on when I leave the house. Plus, there’s an option to set it for an hour for my cat when I go to bed (because I’m a considerate pet owner).
The control pad is user-friendly, with buttons for temperature and timer settings and a power switch. It can be detached from the blanket for easy washing. Dreamland claims it’s tumble dryer-safe, although I haven’t tested this feature myself.
Dreamland’s heated blankets are Kema-Keur safety tested and come with a two-year warranty for added peace of mind.
