Fairphone customers around the globe were surprised this week when they received unexpected confirmation emails that seemed to refer to purchases made in the past. The emails came from a legitimate address and contained accurate personal information, sparking concerns about a possible data breach. However, Fairphone has now released a statement denying any breach or hack.

Users on the company’s community forums reported receiving confirmation emails for old orders out of the blue. These emails included correct purchase details, names, and addresses, but the sender’s address had changed, and the links in the emails led to unfamiliar test URLs. This situation caused many users to worry that their order history and contact information had been compromised.

With rumors swirling about a potential breach, many customers reached out to support for clarification. Fairphone has since clarified that the unusual emails were likely the result of a technical error involving a third-party service provider. The company has asserted that there was no unauthorized access to customer data or breach of security.

Fairphone’s email partner, Bloomreach, inadvertently triggered the confirmation emails, according to the official statement. The company is conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the issue. In the meantime, Fairphone has assured customers that their data is secure and that extra monitoring measures are in place while the investigation is ongoing.

The company’s confirmation has put users at ease, although some remain cautious until the review is complete. Customers are advised to refrain from clicking on any suspicious links or sharing personal information with unofficial sources. Additionally, they should avoid opening email attachments from unknown senders.
