In recent times, I have been dealing with a significant amount of stress. This stress has been a result of both work-related issues and personal dilemmas that I have been avoiding addressing. I kept telling myself that I would take the time to figure things out, but the reality was that I kept putting it off.
I ignored all the signs that indicated I was heading towards burnout. My heart rate would spike, but I would brush it off and assure myself that I would slow down soon. I was always preoccupied with taking care of others, putting my needs last.
One ordinary day, on December 30, 2025, everything changed. I had a regular day at work and planned to run some errands afterward. It was my partner’s birthday coming up on New Year’s Day, so I had to pick up a birthday cake for him. The evening started off fine, but soon after supper, I began feeling unwell. My heart felt like it was under pressure, and my heart rate was fluctuating erratically.
Given my family history of heart issues, I decided to seek medical help immediately. I rushed to the hospital, where I underwent various tests like an ECG, blood work, and a chest x-ray. The wait for the results was agonizing, especially considering I had work the next morning.
Despite the uncertainty, I reached out to my workplace to explain my situation. I was surprised to find myself worrying about work even in such a critical moment. Eventually, I was informed that my stress levels were alarmingly high, and it was a wake-up call for me to slow down and prioritize my well-being.
The doctor’s diagnosis was a shock to me. I had mistaken my stress-induced symptoms for a heart attack. I was relieved that my heart was healthy, but I knew I had to make significant changes in my lifestyle. I decided to take a few days off, focus on resting, and reflect on how I can make my health a priority moving forward.
As I welcome the new year, 2026, I am committed to making positive changes in my life to ensure a happy and healthy future. It’s a reminder to listen to my body and not ignore the warning signs of burnout. Here’s to a wonderful year ahead filled with self-care and well-being.
