Meta’s Development of New Mixed Reality Glasses Delayed to 2027
Meta, the company behind Facebook, is in the process of creating innovative mixed reality glasses known as Phoenix, as revealed by Business Insider. Originally set for release in the second half of 2026, the launch date has now been pushed back to the first half of 2027.
While Meta already offers VR headsets and smart glasses like Ray-Ban, the Phoenix glasses are expected to stand out due to their unique features. These glasses are said to have a format factor similar to Apple’s Vision Pro, complete with a puck-like power source.
Reasons for the Delay
According to reports, Meta executives have decided to delay the release of Phoenix following discussions with CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The purpose of the delay is to ensure that the product is sustainable and capable of delivering high-quality experiences. Meta’s metaverse leaders, Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns, expressed that the extra time will allow them to perfect the details of the glasses.
Budget Cuts in the Metaverse
In light of the delay, Bloomberg has reported that Meta intends to reduce its metaverse budget by up to 30%. This decision is part of Meta’s broader strategy to streamline operations and focus on creating a more refined and user-friendly metaverse experience.
