Stellantis and Pony.ai Join Forces to Develop Robotaxis for European Markets
Stellantis, a prominent automaker, has recently entered into a preliminary agreement with Chinese autonomous vehicle company Pony.ai to collaborate on the development of robotaxis for deployment in Europe. This strategic partnership aims to combine Pony’s cutting-edge self-driving software with Stellantis’s electric medium-size van platform, equipped with advanced sensors to facilitate autonomous driving capabilities.
The initial phase of this collaboration will involve the integration of Pony’s self-driving technology into the Peugeot e-Traveller model, with test vehicles set to undergo trials in Luxembourg, where Pony.ai has established its European headquarters. Following successful testing, the companies plan to expand the deployment of these autonomous vehicles to various European cities starting in 2026.
Expanding into New Markets
This partnership between Stellantis and Pony.ai comes on the heels of Pony’s recent collaboration with Uber to introduce autonomous vehicles in international markets, including Europe and the Middle East. Additionally, Pony.ai has obtained an autonomous vehicle testing permit from Luxembourg, further solidifying its presence in the European market.
As Pony.ai sets its sights on expanding beyond its stronghold in China and establishing a foothold in Europe, the company is also exploring the possibility of a secondary IPO. Already listed on the Nasdaq, Pony.ai is now contemplating a secondary listing on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong to further bolster its financial standing.
