Google Chrome introduces a new feature that allows users to listen to web pages while multitasking. This feature is especially useful for long news articles that require a lot of time to read. The text-to-speech model used by Chrome is now being upgraded to include NotebookLM-like Audio summaries.
NotebookLM-like Audio Summaries on Google Chrome
The new feature, called “Listen to the feed,” is currently being rolled out to Chrome Canary users. This discovery was made by browser expert Leopeva64 in June and can be found on the Chrome app for Android’s home/New tab screen. It offers a quick, podcast-style summary of the content in the Discover Feed, utilizing voices and conversation styles similar to NotebookLM’s implementation.
Not Available Widely Yet
When users tap the ‘Listen to the feed’ button, Chrome generates an AI playback that opens a media player with an Audio Overview of the content. The media player includes features such as a timeline, skip and rewind buttons, as well as play/pause controls. Currently, this feature is not widely available and may be in testing with a limited number of users. It is expected to be fully rolled out by the end of the year.
In conclusion, Google Chrome is enhancing its text-to-speech feature with NotebookLM-like Audio summaries, providing users with a more interactive and engaging browsing experience. Stay tuned for updates on when this feature will be available to all users.
