3 things to do now for a strong and engaging dating profile

Creating an appealing dating profile can be a daunting task. How much information should you include? What should you keep to yourself? Should you mention your deal-breakers upfront or keep them hidden? And does having a photo really make a difference? One of the ways we celebrated our 25th anniversary was by offering Christian Connection members the opportunity to request a profile review. This allowed our team to provide tips and suggestions for enhancing their profiles. While each profile is unique to its creator, there are some universal tips that can help anyone create an attractive dating profile.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when evaluating how you present yourself online to ensure you have a compelling dating profile.

1. Photos are Essential

Your profile serves as an introduction, and your photos are the first thing potential matches see. It’s crucial not to skip adding photos if you are serious about meeting someone. Profiles with photos tend to attract more interest than those without. Seeing a person’s face creates a sense of connection, whether online or in person.

While one photo is a good start, having multiple photos is even better. Make sure your photos are recent – ideally taken within the last six months – and show your true self without any filters. Try to avoid using selfies, and instead, opt for natural and attractive photos taken with a timer or by someone else.

When selecting photos, consider their quality. Avoid dark or blurry photos, as they may make it difficult for others to see you clearly. Use your photos as an opportunity to showcase different aspects of your life and personality by engaging in various activities.

2. Crafting your Bio

The opening statement of your profile should introduce yourself rather than list your requirements. Highlight four or five key aspects of yourself at the beginning. What are the most important things you want others to know about you? Consider using positive descriptive words that reflect your personality and interests, such as fun, thoughtful, adventurous, or sociable.

Include activities you enjoy or are passionate about, as well as your profession if it’s significant to you. Avoid listing what you want or don’t want in a partner in your bio.

3. Writing Style Matters

When writing your profile, imagine you are starting a conversation with potential connections. Use a friendly and approachable tone, and avoid using all caps or repetitive statements. Always check for spelling errors and consider asking someone to review your profile for feedback.

Expand on your interests and life experiences to make your profile more engaging. End your profile with a compelling closing statement, such as a joke, question, or thank you message.

In conclusion, creating a compelling dating profile requires attention to detail and a thoughtful approach. By including attractive photos, crafting a captivating bio, and using an engaging writing style, you can enhance your chances of making meaningful connections online. Remember to stay true to yourself and present the best version of who you are in your profile.
